"Mountain light Very light very comfortable and you can fold it up into a tiny square so it doesn't take up space. the XCR makes a pretty big difference in comfort. And it does what a Gore-Tex jacket is supposed to. However it has some quirks that prevent it from being a perfect shell. The pockets have VELCRO on them as well as a zipper, but its extremely annoying to have to open your pocket to put your hand in it every time because the VELCRO closes it each time you take your hands out. I'm actually going to try to take the VELCRO off when I get a chance. The second big flaw is the zipper. It is flat out poor engineering. It gets caught if you try to zip up quickly not to mention clipping it into zipper is a bit tougher then it should be. "

" Good jacket! I bought this for my son for a trip to Australia rainforest, outback hiking & hunting & New Zealand skiing. It has performed exceptionally well under all these conditions. It is definitely dry and warm with layers. Good all weather coat!"

" The North Face Mountain Light Jacket Review This jacket is very comfortable and lightweight. I bought it because of its Gore-Tex lining and also because I don't go ice climbing that often and wanted a jacket I could use for other situations (camping, everyday wear, skiing) as well. I already have a 3L Gore-Tex Jacket (Arc'Teryx Theta AR) that I used as a comparator - for better or for worse. Overall, I like this jacket. Hood could be better for contouring and adjustability, as well as the way the zipper hook and loop closure works. It is hard to zip up the jacket and also get into the pockets at times because of this, but you do get used to it. Handwarmer pockets are also a bit tight, but nice to have them where they "should" be instead of up higher. Cut is nice for layering and the jacket does take compatible fleece zip-ins except my down TNF Nuptse jacket, which I don't understand. 1 side zips in but not the other. All in all a very decent value as it seems harder to find actual Gore-Tex 2L jackets these days. Compared to the Arc'Teryx, the Arc'Teryx wins hands down on overall fit and finish plus ergonomics, but the Mountain Light was a tad bit more comfortable and I find myself wearing it a bit more now than my original (but still highly cherished) Theta AR."

" North Face jacket rocks Great jacket with two top names, The North Face and Gore Tex. In a down pour I didn't get wet at all, but I tested the jacket to the limits. I wore it while doing moderately strenuous activity in 90 degree heat on a sunny day to test how breathable it was; it failed but, hey I didn't expect it to match my perspiration level, no jacket could that is waterproof. My shirt was soaked underneath, but I still think the the jacket is great for what is is made for (alpine sports)"
